Jeremy Byrd: A little about me.

My fiancé and I have had the pleasure of living in Hood River for just over a year now. I am an avid outdoorsman and in the short time we’ve lived here, I have enjoyed many adventures in the gorge - including running the entire Timberline Trail, shredding epic powder on Mt Hood, reeling in Coho Salmon at Drano, and riding my motorcycle on dirt roads across the state of Washington. I have a passion for creating unique spaces and crafting functional and beautiful art. My skills in carpentry started out of necessity - living off the grid in Northern California in a place where doing things yourself was a prerequisite of the lifestyle. Resourcefulness and ingenuity were essential here; using recycled and reclaimed materials, running tools and jobsites with no grid power, and improvising unique processes and jigs for every job was the norm. My skills as a craftsman grew as I gained exposure to professionals in the field and began working full time as a handyman and flute maker at Monty Levenson’s (Tai Hei Shakuhachi) homestead and workshop. Over the last year I have further refined my abilities in finish work and furniture in my role with Gary Goodman (Goodman Realty) creating lobby pieces for commercial spaces, building one of a kind custom sculpture and furniture for his home, as well as juggling a multitude of ongoing projects. This includes consulting with an engineering firm to create a hydraulic fire suppression system plan (all plumbing done by me, including install of 5,000 gallon tank and pump/valves), researching and assisting in the install of hydronic boiler and radiator system, construction of custom glass and steel greenhouse integrated into side of home, install of 100 gallon air compressor and pneumatic tool system/ stations in shop and more. My varied work history and repertoire of skills have been an advantage for anything I pursue in life. I have great research skills, an eye for design, and a love for learning. I always approach new challenges with a beginner’s mind and will spend the time learning the ins and outs of a thing to find the most efficient and easeful way of accomplishing a project.
